I'm Jorden Leonard
Executive Director (volunteer) of the Portland Green Party, founder of the Oregon Pirate Party, and recently volunteering a lot of time with Occupy Portland. I've also started Oregon Wolf PAC not knowing there was also Wolf PAC Oregon, we've chatted, we are in the north, they are in the south so we will simply work together developing our regions.
(Separate from all this I have a full time job and family so my availability is limited, but I have developed a good network I can help others taken advantage of)
Currently I am working heavily with the Instant Runoff Voting and AntiCorporate Personhood workgroups. Most of the participants come from Occupy Portland as our general assembly approved support and advocacy for these two issues.
So it can be said that Occupy Portland is directly working with the City of Portland to develop a charter amendment to put on the ballot that would enact Instant Runoff Voting for our city elections. This hopefully would then lead to all Oregon state elections being ranked choice instant runoff voting as is specifically allowed by our state constitution since 1908.
This can be said because we passed in 2007 the requirement for the formation of a City Charter Review Commission which allows a commission to put amendments to the city charter directly on the ballot and with 15 votes circumventing our city council entirely.
We have gained a lot of legitimacy by working with the city on this issue.
The Anti Corporate Personhood workgroup has built upon this relationship with the city with the goal of getting Move to Amend's city resolution considered and at least a conversation about a city charter amendment that would challenge corporate personhood.
I hope to have this workgroup work with Wolf-PAC in Oregon.
